Fair Share Volunteer Hours
Welcome to the Portland Jewish Academy community of volunteers. You are now part of a dynamic network of families - students, parents, grandparents and others - who work together to provide our children with the best education possible.

The Fair Share program has worked to support PJA for more than a decade. Fair Share is a way to distribute volunteer work evenly and give everyone the opportunity to participate and feel connected to our school community. Being involved in our children's education is part of what makes the PJA community so special. The spirit of working together enriches our lives and our children's lives.

How it works:
Each family volunteers a minimum of 18 hours per year. This includes volunteering for fundraising projects, in-class assistance, accompanying classes on field trips and many other ways of using your talents and skills to help PJA.

Families that cannot or choose not to work these hours are urged to make a donation of at least $180 to PJA's general fund.
  • Complete a volunteer information form.
  • Ask your child's teacher for volunteer opportunities.
  • Check the Thursday emails home to parents.
  • Check in the main PJA office to learn about the most recent opportunities.
  • Or check out this site regularly for volunteer opportunity updates.
Each family records its hours in a notebook in the main PJA office. One volunteer job is to tally the volunteer hours and send reminders to parents who have not fulfilled the required hours.
