Giving & Volunteering At PJA
PJA receives donations and financial support from generous parents, grandparents, community
members, businesses and foundations. Our school enjoys deep and broad-based support, with donors
both inside and outside Portland. We are proud to be a constituent agency of the Jewish
Federation of Portland, which allocates a generous amount each year to support full-time Jewish
education at PJA.
Like all independent schools, the cost of a PJA education exceeds tuition, and we ask all parents
to make above-tuition donations to the extent they are able. We urge parents who are able to
contribute the difference between tuition and the actual cost of the excellent Jewish and general
education PJA provides, which is approximately $2,000 per student.
All PJA families help raise funds by working on our auction and most parents participate in our
other fundraising opportunities - scrip, jog-a-thon, purchasing PJA-themed clothing, and other
opportunities during the year. In addition, many families have made planned giving commitments
through our Dor l'Dor (Generation to Generation) program.
In addition to helping to raise funds for PJA, our parents and students practice the value of
responsibility for our school by participating in the Fair Share volunteer program. Each
family contributes a minimum of 18 hours per year, with many families working many more hours,
or "buys out" their Fair Share obligation with a monetary donation. Fair Share hours may be
earned by helping in the classroom, accompanying a class on a field trip or in many other ways.
We always have options for working parents and others who cannot perform their Fair Share hours
at the school during the school day. Whether you give of your time, your money or other
resources, your contribution helps PJA go from strength to strength.
