Our Mission
Our programs are dedicated to the care, education, and development of children and youth during their out of school time. We emphasize life skills through community service and enrichment-based programming.

The Kidspace Philosophy

Enrichment-based programming. Kidspace follows a philosophy of teaching developed by the National AfterSchool Association (NAA).

Child-friendly environment. At Kidspace we create an atmosphere where children socialize, prosper, learn and enjoy themselves. We provide all types of sports equipment for physical play, inside and outside.

Parent involvement
We create a partnership between parents and teachers for the benefit of every child. Our doors are open to parents at all times and we welcome families to drop in and observe, have snack, and hang out with their children.

Dedicated and caring staff
The strength of our program is in the dedication of our teaching staff. Kidspace supports teachers with many training opportunities and resources to grow professionally. Teachers have freedom to create unique learning experiences for the children.

Kidspace Kindergarten
A positive kindergarten experience can pave the way for your child's success as he or she proceeds through school. We offer a kindergarten curriculum that respects children. The program also helps to promote independence and self-confidence. Although the Kindergarten program is in a separate space, the Kindergarteners may also join the older children for games and projects in the main play areas.

The Kindergarten program may include: social and empathy skills in a child-centered environment, creative art and theater games, language experiences, reading lessons, large motor and fine motor play times, music and story times and mathematics foundation skills.

Enrichment-Based Programming and The Kidspace Environment
We encourage children to become responsible, self-confident, independent, active explorers and enthusiastic learners by stressing the process of learning and discovery through developmentally as well as age-appropriate activities that meet their interests. The activities and environment at Kidspace are specially structured to address the interests and development levels of children in Kindergarten through 5th grade by offering:
  • Unique daily projects
  • Well-equipped indoor activity centers
  • Areas for reading and relaxing
  • Large outdoor play area and play structure
  • Leadership roles for older children
Enrichment activities may include: arts and crafts, group games, homework center, science projects, cooking projects, language and culture study, community service, music, story time and indoor games. Kidspace offers children a variety of choices to explore their personal interests.

Vacation Day Programming
In addition to our regular afternoon programming at Kidspace, we offer special programs for holiday breaks, school conference breaks, teacher in-service breaks and school vacations. Vacation Day Programs are held on site or at Kidscorner at Portland Jewish Academy. Please refer to our calendar for more information.
